Getting side steps attached from an automotive shop is always an option, but why waste hundreds of Pounds when you can simply follow our step-by-step guide on installing side steps on your Discovery Sport. Most vehicles tend to follow the same procedure for attaching side steps, except for a few deviations. However, this guide focuses specifically on installing side steps on the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
Before you begin, ensure that all the necessary equipment is available. The following tools and equipment should be present.
- Safety glasses and gloves
- Padded mat or creeper
- Box end wrenches
- Ratchet and Socket Set
- Screwdrivers
- Cutting tool
- Trim Tools
Step 1: Remove the Plastic Sill Strip from the sides
Take a screwdriver and start taking out the screws from underneath the side sill of the car. Several pin clips hold the plastic underneath. Take a metal trim tool and start pulling them out. If the clips get stuck, use a plier to pull them out.
Once the clips have been removed, take a plastic trim tool and pull out the sill plastic from the sides. This will expose the area where the brackets are supposed to be attached.
Step 2: Attach the Brackets
After removing the plastic, start attaching the brackets to the sides. Depending on your kit, the brackets will have inscriptions that show which side the bracket is supposed to be attached to. If your brackets don’t have any inscriptions, then simply match the holes in the car with the brackets and see which ones fit perfectly.
There will be inscriptions such as R1, R2, and L1. L1 and L2 signify that the brackets are supposed to be attached to the front left and rear left side respectively, while R1 and R2 show that they are supposed to be attached to the front right and rear right sides respectively.
Step 3: Reattach the Sill Plastic
After mounting the brackets, reattach the sill strip plastic to the sides. Take your cutting tool and make incisions on the plastic to accommodate the brackets. Two squares should be enough on both sides.
Step 4: Mount the Side Steps
Lastly, mount the side steps to the brackets. Ensure that the side steps are perfectly aligned with the brackets Tighten the bolts and make sure that there are no loose screws. Once this step is done, you can enjoy your brand-new side steps on your Land Rover Discovery Sport. Get yours from Turborevs today and take your car’s aesthetics to new heights.
